**Yogaraj Bhat** (born 8 October 1972) is an Indian Kannada film director, lyricist, producer, and screenwriter. Recognized as one of the most influential contemporary filmmakers in the Sandalwood industry, he is most predominantly known for the 2006 romantic blockbuster *Mungaru Male*, which he co-wrote with Preetham Gubbi. Born in Mandarthi in the Udupi district of Karnataka, he spent his formative years in Tilavalli, Haveri. Passionate about cinema and heavily inspired by international classics, he relocated to Bangalore at the age of 22 with aspirations of becoming a cinematographer. He honed his craft by serving as an assistant director under esteemed filmmakers like Girish Kasaravalli, V. Ravichandran, and Sunil Kumar Desai. After directing the television series *Chakra*, he made his independent feature film debut with *Mani* in 2003. Bhat's career skyrocketed with the release of *Mungaru Male* in 2006. The film became an unprecedented cultural phenomenon, recording the highest box office collections in the history of Kannada cinema at the time and setting records for its marathon run at multiplexes. He continued this streak of success by writing, directing, and producing a series of critically and commercially acclaimed hits, including *Gaalipata* (2008), *Manasaare* (2009), *Pancharangi* (2010), *Paramathma* (2011), and *Drama* (2012). His signature directorial style frequently incorporates witty colloquial dialogues, contemporary relationship dynamics, and emotionally grounded narratives. In addition to directing, Bhat is one of the most sought-after and prolific lyricists in Kannada cinema, having penned hundreds of popular songs across dozens of films. His exceptional lyrical work earned him the Filmfare Award South and the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Lyricist for the hit song "Bombe Aadsonu" from his own directorial venture, *Drama*.
